Saab is delighted to offer the Gripen NG to Brazil. Gripen NG is a true multi-role fighter aircraft that has the operational range, payload and built-in Net Centric Warfare (NCW) capabilities to meet all roles as defined. Brazil’s NCW capability will be significantly enhanced by operating the Gripen NG in combination with the Embraer E-99 ERIEYE system.

Net Centric Fighter

Gripen NG is truly Network Centric fighter. It has the world’s most highly developed secure and multi-frequency data links systems that provides total situation awareness for the pilot in all modes of operation.

Superior Sensor Fusion

It features a mission system with seamlessly integrated avionics, which provides a full sensor fusion resulting in an outstanding combat capability that assures extremely accurate launching of intelligent weapons.

Smart Digital Cockpit

An advanced fully digital cockpit layout with large colour Multi-Functional Displays (MFD) and Hands-On-Throttle-And-Stick (HOTAS) and Helmet Mounted Display (HMD).

Combat Range and Radius

Thanks to its increased fuel capacity, the Gripen NG in the Combat Air Patrol configuration achieves a combat radius of 700 nm (nautical miles), or 1.300 km, from the base of operations, with more than 30 minutes “on station”. It has a ferry range of 2200 nm (4.000 km).

See First – Hit First

A combination of low radar, IR and visual signatures, a smart digital cockpit, along with a state-of-the-art AESA radar, an Infra Red Search and track (IRST) sensor and superior sensor fusion, including world leading new generation weapons integration and the electronic warfare suite, ensure a high probability of victory in any engagement.

Outstanding Agility

The Gripen NG is the most agile fighter in the world in close combat. It combines an advanced aerodynamic layout that uses a canard and delta wing configuration, together with its triplex, digital fly-by-wire flight control system (FCS).

High Operational Availability

Minimum logistical support requirements lead to a high level of operational availability.

 

 Reliability

120,000 flight hours in total safety accumulated in the Swedish, Czech Republic, Hungarian and South African Air Forces and the UK’s Empire Test Pilots’ School (ETPS).

Life Cycle Cost

Gripen NG has the lowest logistical and operational costs of all fighters currently in service.

Future Development

The Gripen is built to be adaptable to changing threats and operational requirements that a modern Air Force faces.

Two-seater

A two-seater version retains the full operational capabilities of the single-seater aircraft. The Gripen NG Program has the full support of the Swedish government.

Power Plant

The engine, a General Electric F414G turbofan, is a modular, fuel-efficient low-bypass ratio, afterburning turbofan with the latest technology. With a thrust rating of more than 22,000lb (98kN), the F414G produces 20% more thrust than Gripen’s current Volvo Aero RM12 power plant, and will enable super-cruise performance of Mach 1.1 with air-to-air weapons.

 

Radar

With the world’s only 2nd generation AESA radar, ES 05 Raven, Gripen NG will secure its advantages in situational awareness. The ES 05 Raven developed by Selex-Galileo, together with Saab and Brazilian Industry, is the only fighter radar on the market with a moving swash plate allowing cover of scan angles up to ±100°. The new radar will improve all aspects compared to legacy radars, such as:

  • improved target tracking
  • wide field of regard
  • mode flexibility
  • increased detection range
  • improved electronic support measurements
  • increased operational availability together with lower life cycle costs.
